"Run for the Future
of Lesotho" Launches
On
April 16, 2012, for the first time in the Boston
Marathon's 115 year history, an athlete from Lesotho will run
the 26.2 miles to compete in this world class event.
SHARED
has been awarded a charity number to give to a representative to
run the race. With the kind assistance of the US Ambassador to Lesotho,
the Honorable
Michele Bond, runners were interviewed and one individual was
selected to represent his country and our organization. Mr. Motlokoa
Clement Nkhabutlane, has been selected to come to Boston to compete
in the marathon.
Mr.
Nkhabutlane has competed in marathons in Africa, winning the Cape
Town Marathon in 2008. He trains with a group of runners in Lesotho
but because the country is poor, there is no financial support for
him to compete is qualifying races like the Boston Marathon. He
runs because he loves it.
Motlokoa
will arrive in Boston in mid-March to begin training in Boston.
While he is here, he will speak to local groups about his life in
Lesotho, especially the impact of HIV/AIDS on the country. His visit
to the US won't be all work as we welcome him to Boston and the
sights of the city. Interested in having him speak to your group?

As
we launch the “Run for the Future of Lesotho” campaign, please support
our efforts to provide medicines, medical supplies, and medical
equipment to help the 400,000 orphans left behind from the devastation
of AIDS on the population of Lesotho. Sponsorships for individuals
and organizations are available at every level.
